U.S. Fastener Imports & Exports Remain Anemic

U.S. fastener imports and exports weakened in June for the third straight month.

U.S. fastener exports of iron and steel fasteners (HTS Code: 7318) were flat at $329.1 million in June, according to Zepol data analyzed by GlobalFastenerNews.com.

The top five consumers of U.S. fastener exports in June were Mexico (up 1.1% month-to-month to $113.7 million); Canada (up 6.3% to $91.3 million); the UK (up 8% to $14.8 million); China (down 22.8% to $13.6 million); and France at $9.4 million.

U.S. fastener imports of iron and steel fasteners (HTS Code: 7318) declined 4% in June to $432.4 million, Zepol reports.

The top five countries importing fasteners to the U.S. during June were Taiwan (down 6.5% month-to-month to $135.1 million); China (down 5.9% to $110.1 million); Japan (down 17.7% to $44.6 million); Canada (up 27.7% to $33.2 million); and Germany (down 3.1% to $28.1 million).

During the first half of 2015, exports rose 24% to 1.9 million tons, while imports grew 16% to 2.8 million tons.

This data was derived from Zepol’s trade intelligence tool, TradeView, using U.S. import and export trade data released by the U.S. Census Bureau in the Merchandise Trade dataset.
