U.S. Fastener Imports Pick Up Speed

Following a month of decline, U.S. fastener imports increased 7% month-over-month to $418.9 million in July 2012, Zepol reports. In June fastener imports to the U.S. fell 5% to $392.4 million.
Meanwhile U.S. fastener exports for July declined 8% to $265.9 million, according to Zepol. That result follows numbers showing U.S. fastener exports dropped 1% to $289.5 million in June. 

The top five countries importing fasteners to the U.S. during July were Taiwan ($126.2 million), China ($96.8 million), Japan ($73.7 million), Germany ($21.4 million) and Canada ($19 million).

Mexico overtook Canada as the top consumer of U.S. fastener exports in July with $81.7 million in fastener products. Rounding out the top five countries receiving U.S. fastener exports during July were Canada ($81.1 million), UK ($12.1 million), China ($8.5 million) and France (7.3 million). ©2012 GlobalFastenerNews.com
