U.S. Fastener Numbers Show Rising Demand
U.S. fastener exports and imports rose in July, signaling increased demand.
U.S. exports of iron and steel fasteners (HTS Code: 7318) increased 3% to $334.25 million in July, according to data released by the U.S. Census Bureau and analyzed by GlobalFastenerNews.com.
The top five consumers of U.S. fastener exports in July were Mexico (up 8.2% month-to-month to $117.8 million); Canada (down 4.1% to $90.5 million); the UK (up 4.7% to $13.4 million); China (up 9.3% to $12.9 million); and Brazil, which replaced Australia in the top five listing with $12.1 million, Zepol reports.
Imports of iron and steel fasteners (HTS Code: 7318) to the U.S. also improved in July, growing 4% to $433.4 million, according to U.S. Census Bureau.
The top five countries importing fasteners to the U.S. during July were Taiwan (up 6.3% month-to-month to $132.2 million); China (down 2.5% to $103.3 million); Japan (up 9.2% to $57.9 million); Germany (up 14.3% to $31.1 million); and Canada (down 8% to $23.1 million), Zepol reports.
In the first six months of 2014, U.S. fastener exports and imports achieved solid growth, with exports climbing 6.4% to $1.9 billion and imports gaining 6.9% to $2.39 billion.
This data was derived from Zepol’s trade intelligence tool, TradeView™, using U.S. import and export trade data released by the U.S. Census Bureau in the Merchandise Trade dataset.
