U.S. Sets Preliminary Duties on Wire Rod from China

The U.S. Commerce Department set preliminary subsidy rates of up to 81% on imported steel wire rod from China.

The department made its preliminary affirmative determination that Chinese producers and exporters of carbon and certain alloy steel wire rod received countervailing subsidy rates ranging from 10.3% to 81.36%, according to Xinhua News Agency.

The complaint about imports of hot-rolled carbon steel and alloy steel rod from China was made by ArcelorMittal USA, Charter Steel, Evraz Pueblo, Gerdau Ameristeel, Keystone Consolidated Industries and Nucor Corp.

Imports of Chinese wire rod totaled $313 million in 2013.

The Commerce Department is due to make its final decision on the matter by Nov. 12.
