Walker Wins FTI Technical Achievement Award
Michael Walker, the vice president for research & development at Omni-Lite Industries, won the 2012 FTI Technical Achievement Award.
Walker’s U.S. patents focus on advancing overall component complexity and achievable tolerances with progressive cold forming systems.
It is the seventh year of the awards sponsored by Fastener Technology International.
Walker’s Omni-Lite products include aircraft and automotive fasteners. Military components include 40mm coupling fasteners. His sports/recreation components including the composites spikes in the “golden shoes” first worn by Michael Johnson at the 1996 Olympics.
Walker graduated in 1993 in engineering technology from Southern Alberta Institute of Technology.
Founded in 1992, Omni-Lite was started to develop lightweight ceramic composite track spikes for athletes. Omni-Lite expanded to automotive, commercial, aerospace, and military markets. Today Omni-Lite manufactures precision components utilizing advanced composite materials and computer-controlled cold forging techniques. Customers include Boeing, Airbus, Alcoa, Ford, Caterpillar, Borg Warner, Chrysler, the U.S. Military, Nike and Adidas.
