The World Health Organization expanded its travel advisory to include all of Taiwan as the island struggles to handle the fastest-growing outbreak of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) in the world, CNN.com reported. The update broadens a May 8 WHO warning on travel to Taiwan’s capital, Taipei. Taiwan has confirmed 418 cases of SARS, including the 35 new cases reported May 21. The flu-like virus has killed 52 people in Taiwan, according to WHO. Worldwide, 662 people have died from SARS.
Taiwan is a major producer of fasteners for U.S. companies. It’s unclear what impact the illness will have on fastener imports from the island. ©2003 FastenerNews.com
