Women in the Fastener Industry is accepting applications for four memorial scholarships.
Application deadlines range from April 1 to July 1, 2020.
- The Margaret Davis scholarship funds participation in Fastener Fair USA, which will be May 19-20, 2020 in Charlotte. The new scholarship – provided by the trade show – honors Davis, who founded ISSCO Inc./ BTM Manufacturing with her spouse, Joe Davis Jr. in 1974. She started in the fastener industry at Kansas City Nut & Bolt in the 1960s – where she met Joe Davis. She served as secretary-treasurer for 26 years as matriarch of the family business, which included sons. Application deadline: April 1
- The Joanne Goodman Sherman E-Learning scholarship is for online courses through THORS eLearning Solutions – Online Training Specifically for manufacturing fasteners. Sherman was co-owner of Industrial Rivet & Fastener. She started part-time while in high school and that led to overseeing the administrative and operational areas of the 100+ year old business. Sherman was an award-winning member of NAPW (National Association of Professional Women) and active in Vistage International – a peer-mentoring group for business owners. Application deadline: May 15
- The Ann Bisgyer Wolz scholarship is for Fastener Training Institute courses, including those leading to the Certified Fastener Specialist designation. She was the co-publisher of Fastener Industry News. She first worked in the fastener industry during high school for her stepfather, Eric Cohn, at Allied International. She later entered the trade show industry in New York City and returned to fasteners when she and spouse John Wolz acquired FIN in 1994. Application deadline: May 15
- The Edith Cameron scholarship funds participation in the International Fastener Expo, which will be September 28-30, 2020, in Las Vegas. Cameron was a trailblazer in the industry for 55 years and inducted into the NIFS Fastener Hall of Fame in 1993. Application deadline: July 1
