NEWS BRIEFS

The Iron Workers International Union is offering wind turbine training programs for union ironworkers to develop key construction skills, BrighterEnergy.org reports.
The union is reportedly working with the Ironworker Management Progressive Action Cooperative Trust (IMPACT) , along with the Francis Tuttle Technology Center in Oklahoma City, to offer the 36-hour training course, which includes torque/tension certification.
Ironworkers can earn three certifications covering the use of basic fasteners and proper safety procedures, plus mechanical, electronic and hydraulic torque knowledge.
Training will be provided by such companies as Capital Safety, Snap-on Industrial and industrial bolting toolmaker HYTORC.
Federal stimulus funding will help IMPACT replicate the FTTC training model in five US cities – Buffalo, New York; Dallas and Joliet, IL; Los Angeles; and Salt Lake City. Each location can train up to 100 ironworkers within the program’s plan.  ©2010 GlobalFastenerNews.com
