Alloy Fasteners NC factory after the storm (Wesley Beeson / Sanford Herald)

A stainless steel fastener factory in Sanford, NC, was knocked offline Wednesday when “strong, straight-line winds” tore through the central North Carolina community of about 30,000 residents, the Sanford Herald reports.

The “large” summer storm heavily damaged a number of homes and business and toppled trees across the city, though no injuries were reported.

Among the businesses damaged was Alloy Fasteners’ factory, where about one-third of the roof caved in, according to Zach Potter of the Herald.

Alloy Fasteners employees told the Herald that the building will closed down for at least two weeks.

“All we know is that the wind bounced off the building and tore the roof off,” said Stevie Williams, who was in the building at the time. “We were in there working. We heard a lot of loud noises and the roof caved in. There was a lot of damage, a lot of water damage.”

Alloy Fasteners is a national distributor, manufacturer and direct importer of stainless steel fasteners. Industries served include the marine, construction, furniture, fencing, pool, vessels and storage tanks, and solar and wind energy industries.

The company is headquartered in Cranston, RI, and operates facilities in Springfield, MO, Maryville, TN, New Paris, IN, and Sanford. Web: alloyfasteners.com ©2014 GlobalFastenerNews.com
