Würth Service Supply Inc. installed a 3-D LaserLab measuring system for incoming inspections.

“We deal with thousands of suppliers and ship hundreds of thousand of orders each year,” director of quality Rob Girdley said. “Accuracy, traceability and time are the keys to the success of our quality department. The LaserLab system drastically improves our turnaround time and abilities in all areas of inspection.”

The General Inspection LaserLab replaces multiple manual gauges, such as micrometers, calipers, and optical comparator.

With the 3-D modeling, 3-D wire thread graphics and other graphical displays, human error is removed from the dimensional inspection process, Girdley added.

Parts are scanned in seconds for all dimensions within a few microns. Part tolerances are assigned with the appropriate part number and are stored for quick recall. Any feature out of tolerance is highlighted in red for immediate notification.
