During 2019 Würth Revcar Fasteners Inc. is marking the 50th anniversary of the founding of the distributorship by Jim Revercomb Sr. and Jack Carter.
Revercomb and Carter opened the regional fastener supply store on March 10, 1969, in Roanoke, VA. Revercomb took over the distributorship a few years later once Carter departed.
Revercomb sought to expand to the north and east of Roanoke by opening a branch in Richmond in 1983. Within five years Revcar was known as a master distributor by proprietary lines such as ESNA, Greer, Tinnerman, Huck, Heyco and others. Revcar also ventured into vendor-managed inventory, contracting with OEMs.
In 1996 the Würth Group North America – a unit of another family-owned company, Adolf Würth GmbH & Co. of Germany – acquired Revcar as part of establishing a U.S. presence. With Würth’s name, Revcar began adding global customers.
Revercomb, who was the 1982-83 president of the National Fastener Distributors Association and was inducted into the NIFS Hall of Fame in 1995, led the transition to Würth. He died in 2010.
Randy Revercomb – Jim’s son – succeeded the founder as president in 1996 and has retired after 37 years with the company. Jim Revercomb, son of founder and brother of Randy, is still with Revcar.
Today Würth Revcar has six full-service branches in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast and 180 employees.
Customers include a broad range of industries, including heavy equipment, transportation, agriculture, fitness, recreation, lawn / garden and the military.
“I am extremely proud of Würth Revcar’s culture and commitment to upholding the company’s strong reputation and high standards for service excellence,” managing director and grandson of the founder Chapman Revercomb said. “Our dedicated and loyal employees, customers and suppliers have all contributed to our continued success. I am incredibly grateful.”
For the future, Würth Revcar is upgrading warehousing systems and launching a state-of-the-art quality program.
“For 50 years, Würth Revcar has provided exceptional fastener and inventory solutions that help our customers meet the needs of an ever-changing marketplace,” managing director Jeff Schmitt reflected. “We are continually evolving to meet the needs of our customers. Today, we’re well positioned to deliver the speed, service and scalability required for effective distribution.”
